Cal’s in Vancouver — A Tigard HQ, a Clark County Crew

We’ve been moving Pacific Northwest families since our team rolled the first box truck out of an SAE fraternity house at Oregon State. A decade and 10,000+ moves later, we cross the Columbia into Vancouver almost every day.

Right now, our HQ sits in Tigard, OR, fifteen minutes south of the I-5 bridge. Our crew leads know every shortcut around the Glenn Jackson, every choke point on Mill Plain, and exactly when not to try the I-5 corridor on a Friday afternoon. We service all of Vancouver, WA and Clark County — from Hazel Dell to Cascade Park, from Salmon Creek to Fishers Landing — with the same crews, the same trucks, and the same 4.9★ guarantee that earned us “Best Moving Company in the Willamette Valley.”

A dedicated Vancouver, WA branch is in our 2026 expansion plans. Until it opens, every Vancouver job is dispatched, scheduled, and crewed out of Tigard — which means the same trained team you’d get on a Lake Oswego or Beaverton move, with no franchise hand-offs and no out-of-state subcontractors.

Why Vancouver Families and Businesses Choose Cal’s Moving

4.9 stars across 2,300+ reviews. Our crew leads aren’t day-laborers — they’re full-time, background-checked, uniformed, and trained in our system.

Same trucks, same crew, same accountability. No franchise hand-offs. No “we use a partner for that route.” Every Vancouver, WA move is dispatched out of our Tigard HQ with our own trucks and our own people.

Bridge-savvy logistics. Our dispatchers route every Vancouver job around I-5 bridge traffic, ODOT/WSDOT roadwork, and the predictable Friday-afternoon crawl on the Glenn Jackson. We get you off the bridge fast.

Transparent, written pricing. Free walk-through estimates with no obligation. Hourly rates locked in before the truck rolls. No “fuel” or “stair fee” surprises on moving day.

Cross-state expertise. We hold full USDOT interstate authority — most local moving companies aren’t set up to handle the federal licensing the moment a move crosses the Columbia. We are. (Intrastate-Washington WUTC authority is on the way as our Vancouver branch comes online.)

Background-checked crews. Every mover passes a background check before they ride in our trucks. We tell you who’s coming before they show up.

Family-owned, locally-rooted. We sponsor the Lake Oswego Run, support the Boys & Girls Club, and partner with the Assistance League. Cal’s is a small business from the moment our founder loaded a box truck for his first dorm move — and we still answer the phones ourselves.

Moving in Vancouver — What Makes It Different

Vancouver, WA isn’t just “Portland’s other side.” It’s its own market, with its own moving quirks. Here’s what changes when your move involves Clark County.

The Bridge Window Matters

The I-5 and I-205 bridges are the chokepoint of any Portland↔Vancouver move. Get on the wrong side of rush hour and you can lose two hours sitting in traffic. Our dispatchers schedule Vancouver moves around the windows — typically 9 a.m.–2 p.m. on weekdays, anytime weekends — to avoid the worst of it.

Tax Geography Is the Real Reason People Move

A surprising share of Cal’s Vancouver customers are doing the no-sales-tax / no-income-tax shuffle: working in Portland, living in Washington (or vice versa). It’s not our place to give tax advice, but we know the moving patterns. If you’re crossing the river to take advantage of the line, you’re not alone — and we know how to time your move around lease end-dates and closing dates so the tax-residency math works.

Cross-State Licensing Is Non-Negotiable

A move from Portland, OR to Vancouver, WA is a legal interstate move — even though the bridge is two miles long. Movers without USDOT authority technically can’t do it. Cal’s holds full USDOT interstate licensing, so we can legally cross the river with your stuff every day. Ask any quote you’re getting from another mover whether they’re authorized for interstate moves. Many aren’t.

Vancouver’s Hills and Drives Aren’t Like Portland’s

Felida and Lake Shore have steep gravel driveways. The Heights and Riveridge have older homes with narrow staircases. Cascade Park and Fishers Landing are newer construction with HOA rules about move-in hours. Our crew leads have the local map memorized.

School Calendars Drive the Season

Battle Ground, Vancouver Public, Evergreen, Camas, and Hockinson school districts all run slightly different calendars. Cal’s books up fast in mid-June and mid-August around school transitions. Lock your date 4–6 weeks out if you’re moving in summer.

How Much Do Movers Cost in Vancouver, WA?

Honest answer: it depends on hours, crew size, distance, stairs, and whether the move crosses the bridge. Rather than publish a generic rate that won’t match your specific move, we’d rather give you a real number — in writing, before the truck rolls.

What goes into your quote:

  • Crew size (2, 3, or 4 movers) — sized to your home and timeline
  • Hours estimated — based on bedroom count, packing scope, and access (stairs, long carries, elevator buildings)
  • Truck and equipment — included, no separate fuel surcharge
  • Specialty items — pianos, hot tubs, gun safes, antiques are quoted per item
  • Distance — local Vancouver moves are billed hourly; cross-state and long-distance are quoted as a not-to-exceed range

A free 15-minute virtual walkthrough or in-home estimate is the fastest way to get a real, written number — no obligation, no high-pressure sales call, no fine-print add-ons on moving day. We give you a not-to-exceed rate locked in writing before we start.

How It Works — Moving with Cal’s in Vancouver

Step 1 — Free Estimate. Call (503) 746-7319 or fill out the form. We’ll do a 15-minute virtual walkthrough or schedule an in-home estimate. You get a written quote within 24 hours.

Step 2 — Lock Your Date. A small refundable deposit holds your date on the calendar. Vancouver dates fill up fast for May–September; we recommend booking 4–6 weeks out.

Step 3 — Pre-Move Check-In. A few days before, our move coordinator confirms crew size, arrival window, and any quirks (narrow streets, COI requirements, elevator reservations). We send you the names of the crew lead and movers.

Step 4 — Moving Day. Crew arrives in uniform, in a Cal’s-branded truck. They do a walkthrough with you, agree on what’s going and staying, blanket-wrap your furniture, and load. Most Vancouver-area moves finish the same day.

Step 5 — Unload & Walkthrough. At the destination, our crew lead does a final walkthrough with you. We don’t leave until you’ve checked everything off your inventory.

Step 6 — You Pay What We Quoted. No “discovery” charges. No fuel surcharge. No stair fee surprises. We bill the hours we worked at the rate we quoted.

Frequently Asked Questions About Moving in Vancouver, WA

Do you have an office in Vancouver, WA?

Not yet. We’re based in Tigard, OR — fifteen minutes south of the I-5 bridge — and a Vancouver, WA branch is in our 2026 expansion plans. In the meantime, every Vancouver job is dispatched and crewed by our Tigard HQ. Same trucks, same trained team.

Are you licensed to move between Oregon and Washington?

Yes. Cal’s holds full USDOT interstate authority — required for any move that crosses a state line, including the two-mile trip across the I-5 bridge. Many local movers don’t have it. Intrastate-Washington (WUTC) authority is on the way as our Vancouver, WA branch comes online; for now, we focus on Oregon-origin and cross-state moves into and out of Vancouver.

How far in advance should I book a Vancouver move?

For weekdays in spring/fall, 2–3 weeks is usually fine. For weekends or summer (June–August), book 4–6 weeks out. End-of-month dates always go first.

Will my Vancouver move be charged Washington sales tax or Oregon’s?

Moving services aren’t subject to sales tax in either Oregon or Washington — but specific add-ons (packing materials, valuation coverage) may be taxed depending on where the sale technically happens. Our written quote breaks it out clearly.

Can you move me from Vancouver, WA to a different state?

Yes — long-distance and interstate moves are core to what we do. We run our own dedicated trucks (no shared trailers, no terminal hand-offs). We’ve moved Vancouver, WA families to California, Idaho, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and beyond.

Do you handle high-rise / apartment buildings downtown?

Yes. We handle elevator reservations, certificates of insurance, and HOA paperwork for buildings like The Holland, the Vancouvercenter towers, and the new waterfront condos. Tell us the building when you book — we’ll handle the rest.

How big is a typical crew?

Studios and 1BRs usually take 2 movers. 2–3BR homes take 3 movers. Larger 4+BR homes or long-distance loads take 4 movers and sometimes two trucks. Our move coordinator sizes the crew during your estimate.

Are Cal’s movers background-checked and insured?

Every Cal’s mover passes a background check and a multi-day training program before they ride in a truck. We carry general liability, cargo, and workers’ comp insurance — proof of insurance available to building managers and property managers on request.

What about specialty items — pianos, hot tubs, gun safes?

We move all of them. Specialty items are quoted per item — usually $250–$650 depending on what it is and where it’s going. We have the dollies, ramps, and the crew that’s done it dozens of times.

What if something gets damaged?

We carry standard valuation (60¢/lb per article — federal default) included with every move, and full-replacement valuation as an upsell. We’ve handled 10,000+ moves and damage rates are below 0.3% — but if something happens, our claims process is fast and human, not a 1-800 nightmare.

Planning a Long-Distance Move From Vancouver, WA?

Vancouver is a launching point for a lot of out-of-state moves — California cost-of-living refugees heading north, retirees moving to Arizona, tech workers heading to Boise. We do all of it.

We run dedicated trucks (your stuff travels alone, not with five other families’ loads), keep the same crew lead from origin to destination, and give you GPS tracking on the truck. No mystery, no terminal hand-offs.
