Our College Moving Services
Every college move is different. A freshman moving into a dorm needs a very different level of service than a graduate relocating across state lines for a first job. Here is how we help at every stage of your college journey:
Dorm Move-In and Move-Out
Campus moves come with their own set of rules — designated loading zones, elevator schedules, time windows assigned by housing, and hallways packed with other families doing the same thing. Our crews are experienced at navigating campus logistics efficiently. We arrive on time, work within your assigned window, and get you settled without the chaos.
Off-Campus Apartment Transitions
Moving from the dorms to your first apartment? Switching apartments between lease cycles? These are our most common college moves. We handle furniture disassembly, wrapping, transport, and reassembly at your new place. Tight stairwells and narrow doorways in older student housing near campus are routine for our crew.
Post-Graduation Relocations
You finished the degree — now it is time to move on. Whether you are heading to Portland, Seattle, the Bay Area, or back home across the country, Cal’s handles post-graduation moves of every distance. Our long-distance moving and interstate moving services cover the entire continental United States.
Summer Storage Moves
Heading home for the summer but keeping your apartment? We move your belongings into secure storage and deliver them back when you return in the fall. This is especially popular with out-of-state students at OSU and U of O who do not want to haul everything home twice a year.
Labor-Only Loading and Unloading
Already have a truck or rental trailer? Our labor-only service provides just the crew. We load, secure, and unload your belongings at a fraction of a full-service move. A two-person crew can load a typical student apartment in under two hours.
How Much Does College Moving Cost?
College moves are typically the most affordable type of move because of their smaller scale. Students generally have less furniture, fewer boxes, and shorter distances than a full household move. Here are typical ranges for 2026:
- Dorm room move (local): $200–$450 — Most dorm moves involve a single room’s worth of belongings. A two-person crew can typically complete a local dorm move in one to two hours.
- Studio or 1-bedroom apartment: $350–$700 — The most common off-campus student move. Includes furniture disassembly, wrapping, and reassembly at the new location.
- Shared apartment (your share): $250–$500 — Moving just your portion of a shared apartment keeps the cost low. We coordinate with roommate schedules to minimize disruption.
- Post-graduation move (within Oregon): $500–$1,500 — Corvallis to Portland, Eugene to Salem, or anywhere in the Willamette Valley corridor.
- Post-graduation move (out of state): Starting at $1,500+ — Our interstate moving service covers the entire continental United States with binding estimates so your price is locked in before moving day.
All college moves include a two-hour minimum, and we offer student-friendly pricing because we remember what it was like — Cal’s was started by a college student. For a detailed look at hourly rates and what affects your final cost, visit our Portland moving costs guide.
Why Oregon Students and Families Choose Cal’s
We Started as College Students
Cal’s Moving & Storage was founded in 2018 by Calvin Krech while he was a student at Oregon State University in Corvallis. The company launched from the bike shed of the SAE fraternity house, with Calvin recruiting his fraternity brothers to help with local moves between classes. What started as a way to fund a college student’s life became a full-service moving company that has now completed over 10,000 moves across Oregon. We understand the college moving experience because we literally came from it.
Campus Logistics Expertise
Our crews know the loading zones, elevator policies, and parking restrictions at every major Oregon campus. At OSU, we know which residence halls have freight elevators and which require stair carries. At U of O, we know the move-in traffic patterns around campus and the best times to arrive. At PSU in downtown Portland, we navigate the urban parking challenges that trip up other movers. This campus-specific knowledge saves you time and stress on moving day. For campus-specific dates and tips, check our 2026 OSU, UO & PSU move-out guide.
Trusted by Families Statewide
With a 4.9-star rating across more than 2,300 reviews, a Gold Award for Best Moving Company in the Willamette Valley, and BBB accreditation, Cal’s is the moving company Oregon families trust when their students need reliable help. Parents regularly book moves on behalf of their students, and we make the coordination seamless — even when the student is still in class on moving day.
Tips for a Smooth College Move
- Book early during move-in/move-out week – Campus move-in weekends are extremely busy. Book 3–4 weeks ahead
- Check campus loading rules – Many campuses have designated loading zones, time windows, and elevator schedules
- Declutter before you pack – Sell or donate textbooks, furniture, and clothes you no longer need
- Label everything – Especially if you have roommates. Clear labeling prevents mix-ups
- Coordinate with your RA or building manager – Know the rules for move-out cleaning, key return, and elevator access
- Ask about student pricing – Cal’s offers student-friendly rates and a two-hour minimum on local moves. Mention that you are a student when you call for your estimate, and ask about off-peak scheduling for even better availability
Our College Moving Process
Step 1: Get Your Free Estimate
Call us or request a quote online. Tell us where you are moving from and to, what you are bringing, and any campus-specific details (move-in date, building name, elevator access, loading zone restrictions). We provide a clear, written estimate with no hidden fees.
Step 2: We Plan Around Your Campus Schedule
We coordinate with your campus housing office, building manager, or RA to confirm loading zones, elevator reservations, and move-in windows. If your campus assigns a specific time slot, we build our schedule around it so we arrive ready to work the moment your window opens.
Step 3: Moving Day
Our crew arrives on time, in uniform, with all the equipment needed — dollies, furniture pads, floor runners, and straps. We handle all the heavy lifting, furniture disassembly, wrapping, loading, transport, unloading, and reassembly at your new place. You focus on signing your lease and finding the best coffee shop in the new neighborhood.
Frequently Asked Questions About College Moving
Do you move students during campus move-in week?
Yes. We regularly handle moves during the busy August/September move-in period and June move-out week. Because demand is high, we strongly recommend booking 3–4 weeks in advance to secure your preferred date and time.
Can you move just a few items?
Absolutely. Our 2-hour minimum makes us ideal for small moves. Even if you only have a bed, desk, and a few boxes, our crew will get you set up quickly and affordably.
Do you offer storage for students during summer break?
Yes. We can move your belongings to our secure storage facility for the summer and deliver them back when you return in the fall. Many students find this more convenient and affordable than subletting or shipping items home.
Can my parents book the move for me?
Of course. Parents frequently book college moves for their students. We just need the move-in address, a contact number for the day of the move, and any campus-specific access instructions.
Do you handle moves between cities (e.g., Portland to Corvallis)?
Yes. Inter-city student moves are one of our most common requests. Portland to Corvallis, Salem to Eugene, Bend to Portland — we handle them all at competitive rates.
How much does it cost to move a college student in Oregon?
Most college moves range from $200 to $700 depending on the size of the move and distance. A local dorm move with a two-person crew typically costs $200 to $450 and takes one to two hours. A one-bedroom apartment move runs $350 to $700. Post-graduation moves within Oregon range from $500 to $1,500, while out-of-state moves start at $1,500. Cal’s offers student-friendly pricing with a two-hour minimum on all local moves.
Do you offer storage for college students over the summer?
Yes. Many of our college customers use our storage service between academic terms. We pick up your belongings at the end of spring term, store them securely over the summer, and deliver them back to your new apartment in the fall. This is especially popular with out-of-state students at Oregon State and the University of Oregon who do not want to ship everything home and back.
Can you move me from one Oregon college town to another?
Absolutely. Inter-city student moves are one of our most common requests. We regularly move students between Corvallis and Portland, Eugene and Salem, Monmouth and Albany, and every combination in between. With branches in Corvallis, Tigard, Beaverton, and Eugene, we have crews positioned throughout the Willamette Valley to handle these moves efficiently.
