Corvallis Is Home — And We Know It Like the Back of Our Hand

Corvallis sits at the heart of the mid-Willamette Valley, bordered by the Coast Range to the west and farmland to the east. With nearly 60,000 residents — plus roughly 30,000 Oregon State students during the academic year — this city has a rhythm all its own. September brings a surge of move-ins as students and faculty arrive. June triggers a wave of move-outs as the campus empties. Between those bookends, families relocate between neighborhoods, professionals transfer in and out, and the real estate market keeps our crews busy year-round. We understand these patterns because we live and work in this community, and we plan our services around Corvallis’s unique moving calendar.

Why Corvallis Families and Businesses Choose Cal’s Moving

Deep Local Knowledge

We know that Monroe Avenue gets congested during campus events, that parking near the OSU campus is restricted during the academic year, and that South Corvallis properties along Highway 99W have different access needs than homes in the Timberhill subdivision. This firsthand familiarity with Corvallis streets, traffic patterns, and neighborhoods lets us plan smarter routes and avoid delays that would catch an out-of-town company off guard.

Professional Crews Who Care

Our movers are trained professionals who understand proper lifting technique, furniture protection, and clear communication. Every crew member wraps before loading, pads before carrying, and confirms before placing. You will not find temporary labor or day workers on our team — just experienced movers who take genuine pride in their work.

Transparent, Fair Pricing

We provide written estimates that reflect the actual scope of your move. No hidden fees, no surprise charges on moving day, no bait-and-switch tactics. The price we quote is the price you pay, and we explain every component so you understand exactly what you are getting.

Founded Right Here at Oregon State

Cal’s Moving & Storage was born on the campus of Oregon State University. In the winter of 2018, founder Calvin Krech started the company from the bike shed of his fraternity house at Sigma Alpha Epsilon, recruiting his fraternity brothers to help with local moves between classes. What began as a college side hustle — loading trucks between lectures and studying for finals — quickly grew into a full-service operation. By the end of that first year, Calvin was assembling three to five crews a day during the busy season, all built from the same brotherhood and word-of-mouth trust that still drives our culture today.

Our first headquarters was a rented townhouse down the street from the SAE house, with a whiteboard on the wall for route planning and equipment stacked in the garage. Our first box truck — painted with “Cal’s Moving Help — Moving the Willamette Valley” on the side — was parked on the street near the National Guard building in Corvallis. Every morning started with a walk down the block to fire up that truck and get to work. Calvin built up the Corvallis branch move by move, earning the trust of students, families, and local businesses one job at a time.

Today we operate four branches across Oregon with 50+ crew members and a fleet of 15 trucks, but Corvallis is still home. It is where we started, it is where our founding values were shaped, and it is the community that gave us our first chance. When you hire Cal’s for your Corvallis move, you are hiring the company that grew up in your town.

Moving in Corvallis — What Makes It Different

The OSU Effect

Oregon State University dominates Corvallis’s moving landscape. The annual September move-in and June move-out create the busiest periods of the year, with thousands of students, faculty, and staff relocating simultaneously. The neighborhoods surrounding campus — particularly along Monroe, Harrison, and the streets near Reser Stadium — experience heavy traffic and limited parking during these windows. Our crews plan around the university calendar to ensure your move stays on schedule regardless of what is happening on campus.

Neighborhood Diversity

Corvallis neighborhoods vary dramatically in character and access. The tree-canopied streets of central Corvallis near campus have tight parking and mature landscaping that requires careful truck navigation. Timberhill and North Corvallis feature newer construction with wider streets and easier access. South Corvallis includes a mix of older homes, rural-feel properties, and highway-adjacent lots. Each area demands a different moving approach, and our local knowledge ensures we arrive prepared for whatever your specific neighborhood requires.

Weather and Valley Climate

The Willamette Valley’s rainy season runs from October through June, and Corvallis sits squarely in its path. Our crews prepare for wet conditions on the majority of moves — waterproof covers, plastic wrap for upholstered items, tarps over truck ramps, and non-slip techniques for wet walkways. Summer moves enjoy dry weather but contend with heat and the additional traffic of valley tourism and agricultural activity.

We Know Corvallis — Neighborhoods We Serve

Our moving services cover every corner of Corvallis and the surrounding communities. We serve the campus area, downtown, North Corvallis and Timberhill, South Corvallis, the Westside neighborhoods, and the residential areas along Circle Boulevard and Walnut Boulevard. Beyond city limits, we handle moves in Philomath, Albany, Adair Village, and the surrounding rural areas of Benton County. Whether you are moving across town or between communities in the mid-valley, we know the roads and the logistics.

Long-Distance Moves from Corvallis — Including the Bend Corridor

Corvallis sits at a crossroads of the mid-Willamette Valley, and not every move stays local. Cal’s handles long-distance and out-of-state relocations from Corvallis, and we know the routes that matter most to people leaving the valley — especially the corridor over the Cascades to Central Oregon.

The drive from Corvallis to Bend follows U.S. 20 the whole way — east through Albany and Sweet Home, over the Santiam Pass, and down through Sisters into Bend. It is a true mountain crossing, and one our crews make regularly in every season, carrying chains and traction tires and watching ODOT pass conditions through the winter. If you are moving along that corridor, our dedicated Corvallis to Bend movers page covers the route, the pass, and what to expect. We also handle moves between Corvallis and Portland, Eugene, the Oregon Coast, and destinations across and beyond the state — see our long-distance moving page for how longer moves work.

Booking Your OSU-Area Move: When to Reserve Your Crew

Corvallis runs on the Oregon State University academic calendar, and so does its moving market. The two busiest weeks of the year are the back half of June and the first two weeks of September. If you wait until the last minute to book a Corvallis mover during either window, you will run into limited crew availability and higher rates — whether you go with us or anyone else. Here is the guidance we give every OSU-area customer when they call us.

End of Spring Term and June Move-Out (Mid-June)

OSU’s spring term ends in mid-June, and the wave of move-outs concentrates into roughly a 10-day window starting the weekend of finals. Lease end dates clustered around June 30 push another spike. Best practice: book your move by early April for any date in mid-to-late June. By May, weekend slots in June are usually full. If your timing is flexible, the first two weeks of July offer dramatically more availability and shorter lead times.

Summer Term Transitions and Lease Turnover (July–August)

The pace eases through July, picks up briefly with summer-term move-outs in mid-August, and then ramps hard for the September move-in surge. Book by mid-June for any move scheduled in late July or August.

Fall Term Move-In (Late September)

OSU fall term move-in is the single biggest moving week of the year in Corvallis — thousands of students, faculty, and family members arriving simultaneously between September 15 and the start of classes. Reser Stadium-area streets, Monroe Avenue, and Harrison Boulevard see severe traffic and limited parking. Book by early July for any September move into the OSU area. By August, the most desirable Saturdays are gone.

The Quieter Windows (October–May)

Outside the academic-calendar peaks, Corvallis moving is much calmer. Weekend slots are usually available with two to three weeks of notice, and weekday slots can often be booked even closer in. If your move is flexible, October through April is the easiest time to schedule a Corvallis crew — with one exception: spring break (late March) sees a small spike from students moving out of campus housing for the summer.

What “Book” Actually Means

Reserving a date with Cal’s takes a free written estimate and a small deposit. We do not charge change fees for normal rescheduling, and we will hold your slot through OSU’s schedule even if your final lease date shifts by a week. Cal’s Moving & Storage is a fully ODOT-certified Oregon carrier — you can read more about Oregon’s 2026 moving laws and how to verify a licensed Corvallis mover before you put down a deposit with anyone.

Frequently Asked Questions About Moving in Corvallis

How much do movers cost in Corvallis, OR?

Local Corvallis moves are billed by the hour, so your total depends on home size, how much you’re moving, access at both ends, and the time of year. Oregon law prohibits binding flat-price quotes for in-state moves, so the only accurate figure comes from a free, in-person estimate. For typical ranges by home size, see our Oregon moving cost guide.

Do you handle student and campus-area moves at OSU?

Absolutely. Cal’s Moving actually started in Corvallis with student moves around Oregon State University, so campus-area moves are in our DNA. We handle dorms, the OSU-area apartments, and family moves throughout town.

Do you serve all Corvallis neighborhoods?

Yes — every Corvallis neighborhood, from downtown and the OSU campus area to South Corvallis and the surrounding mid-Willamette Valley, including Philomath and Albany.

What’s the best time of year to move in Corvallis?

Summer is peak season, and it’s especially busy near campus around the OSU academic calendar. Spring, fall, and winter dates are more affordable and easier to schedule. Mid-week and mid-month moves cost less in any season.

How far in advance should I book my Corvallis move?

Two to four weeks’ notice is ideal for a local Corvallis move — more around OSU move-in and move-out, which fill up fast. Shorter-notice and same-week moves are often possible, so contact us to check availability.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Cal’s Moving & Storage is fully licensed by the Oregon Department of Transportation and insured, and we bill every in-state move from our own ODOT-approved tariff — so your pricing is regulated and transparent. Every crew member is background-checked and professionally trained.

Do you offer packing services in Corvallis?

Yes — full or partial packing, plus all the materials, from boxes and tape to specialty cartons for fragile items. Full-service packing saves time and protects breakables; partial packing lets you handle the easy boxes yourself and keep costs down.

Can you move specialty items like pianos or lab equipment?

Yes. Our crews handle pianos, safes, hot tubs, and other heavy or awkward items — including lab and office equipment, which comes up often in a research-university town like Corvallis — with the right equipment and training to move them safely.

Do you handle moves between Corvallis and Bend?

Yes. The Corvallis-to-Bend corridor is one we cover regularly — the full U.S. 20 route over the Santiam Pass, in both directions. It is a long-distance move within Oregon, crossing the Cascades, so we plan it accordingly with the right crew and load securing. See our Corvallis to Bend movers page for route details, or contact us for a free in-person estimate.

Do you offer weekend moves?

Yes, we offer weekend moves. Weekends are in high demand and book up quickly, especially during the summer, so reserve as early as you can to lock in your preferred date.
